My Crochet Journey

Learning to fly

A small beginning in my crochet journey

2 min read

Time is passing by, and after completing several projects with decent results, my confidence started to grow. I finally gathered enough courage to pick up my little wingless bee and start crocheting the white wings. Was I ready or skilled enough? That’s still questionable, but I couldn’t wait any longer.

After replaying the instruction video from the crochet kit (see second try) at 0.5x speed several times, and repeatedly starting over with my wing attempts, I finally managed to create wings that were good enough for my liking (and patience). It felt like a small victory!

However, a new challenge quickly appeared: sewing the wings onto the body of the bee. Honestly, I mostly just tried my best to attach them as tightly and invisibly as possible, but I can’t say I really had a proper strategy for it.

I think the bee is happy with his new pair of wings and is ready to learn how to fly—just like I am doing myself!

During this project, I also got the idea to expand my crochet tools a little. Instead of constantly writing down which rows I had finished, I wanted to get an adjustable row counter. Of course, these are also available in stores, but luckily my partner has a 3D-printing hobby and was able to print one using designs available online. I can really recommend using a row counter—it helps avoid confusion as long as you remember to use it consistently.

Now that I’ve achieved my main goal of finally finishing the bee and adding a new tool to my collection, I think I’m ready for my next challenge… something a little prehistoric perhaps? 🦖
