I think it was sometime in the autumn of 2023. Temperatures were dropping and—living in the Netherlands—the weather was, of course, getting cold and grey. I was walking through Action, a low-budget store with a surprisingly wide range of things, including a lot of hobby supplies. That’s where I first came across crochet kits.
After an unsuccessful start, about a year and a half passed. Some conversations with a creative colleague reminded me of the hobby I once tried to pick up. He wanted to give crochet a try as well—and somehow, his enthusiasm pulled me back in.
At the start of 2026, it was time for the New Year’s resolutions. I don’t know why, but slowly my TikTok feed changed to a total algorithm of crochet tutorials and inspiration videos. Again, the creativity urge peaked, but now I said to myself that the third time would be the charm and my resolution…
With my last projects, I started to get a better feeling for crocheting, and my joy in creating things increased again. In my previous post, I talked about the roses I started making. To stay within the flower theme, my next small project was a lotus flower!
Time is passing by, and after completing several projects with decent results, my confidence started to grow. I finally gathered enough courage to pick up my little wingless bee and start crocheting the white wings. Was I ready or skilled enough? That’s still questionable, but I couldn’t wait any longer. With finishing the bee project, a main goal was achieved and it felt like I was ready to pick up the other projects present in the crochet kit. The next one I wanted to pick up is the dinosaur to get more practice with sewing parts together. I noticed the bright green and orange colors…
