With my last projects, I started to get a better feeling for crocheting, and my joy in creating things increased again. In my previous post, I talked about the roses I started making. To stay within the flower theme, my next small project was a lotus flower!
Maybe a bit out of the blue—why a lotus flower? Well, a family member of mine was going on a motorcycle trip through Vietnam, and I wanted to give him a small gift he could take along without it taking up too much space. I thought a keychain would be a nice little companion for his motorcycle keys! After searching for the national flower of Vietnam, I discovered the lotus flower.
Once I decided I wanted to make a keychain, I immediately ordered a bunch of empty metal keychain rings so I could create my own crocheted keychains. Another addition to my crochet supplies was made 😉
I searched for a tutorial video and found one that suited my purpose well. I only left out the green leaves and added a color change to the inner petals of the flower.
This is the tutorial I followed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9U5QoQxff1k&t=187s

Although this was still far from a masterpiece, I found myself feeling quite content with what I had made. But once again, a lesson was learned: pay close attention to how you attach the keychain ring. On autopilot, I attached it to the middle of the flower on the back, but when you hang it up that way, the flower faces downward. With a bit of force, I managed to make it face sideways instead, though I’m not sure if it stayed that way.
My family member was pleasantly surprised by this cute little gift, and it joined his travels through Vietnam. At one point, even a local family told him it was a beautiful keychain, and I think that was a wonderful compliment!
With this renewed energy, I might be able to return to my wingless bee and finally complete him.
